ENID, OK — Funeral service for Evalyn M. Girty, 73, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Laura Williams-Choate and Jeff Pino will officiate.

Burial will be in Enid Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Evalyn was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Clarence L. Chew and Melva Elizabeth Hadley on Jan. 30, 1941, and died Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in Enid, Okla.

She moved with her parents to Medford, Ore., at age 3. She moved with her mother and sisters in 1955 to Denver, Colo., and in 1958 to Cherokee, Okla. She attended schools in Oregon, Colorado and Cherokee, Okla.

She married Jerry D. Girty in 1959, in Cherokee, Okla., and moved back to Denver, where he was stationed with the Air Force. They moved back to Cherokee in 1961. He died in 1980.

She was a Cub Scout den mother for eight years, a life member of the International Order of Job’s Daughters and Rainbow for Girls. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Bible Baptist Church.

She is survived by five children, Linda D. Jackson and husband Mike of Enid, Okla., Kenneth G. Girty and wife Laura of Cherokee, Okla., Karl W. Girty, Kelly D. Girty and Kristopher K. Girty, all of Enid, Okla.; three sisters, Melva Phillips and husband Phil of Alva, Okla., Belva Carter of Bemidji, Minn., and Linda Link and husband Mel of Cherokee, Okla.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 1980; her parents, Melva and her stepfather, Kenneth G. Braley; her father, Clarence L. and her stepmother, Kathy; her son, Kurtis; both her maternal and paternal grandparents; and her stepsister, Grace Gannon.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the funeral home.
