Shirley Louise Daykin

December 08, 1935 - October 31, 2018

Memorial service for Shirley Daykin, 82 of Enid, will be 2:00 pm November 6, 2018 in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Matt Miles officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Enid Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shirley Louise Sugg was born December 8, 1935 in Idabel, Oklahoma to F.E. Bud and Jessye L. Suggs and died on October 31, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma with her husband Leroy by her side.

At the age of one year her parents relocated to Ponca City, Oklahoma. Where she grew up receiving her education. She attended Garfield Elementary, Ponca Junior High and Ponca City High School. Shirley became a Master Instructor in Cosmetology in 1973 and started teaching in Oklahoma City schools for a number of years. She retired from teaching and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was a medical assistant for Dr. William Van Wey.

In December of 1988, she married Leroy E. Daykin of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and they made their home west of Bartlesville in Osage County, Oklahoma. In 2002, they sold their home and returned to Enid, Oklahoma.

She was a Genealogist, researching the Daykin clan of Scotland/England, Mr. Daykins Mothers family Sands and McDonald, also both sides of her family Suggs and German along with the intermarried families. She also enjoyed sewing and crafts of different kinds as well as square dancing and round dancing. She was a member of Jane Phillips, Swingin Squares, Drifters and Pioneer dance clubs.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Leroy Daykin of the home; three daughters, Debora Laird, Deana Rowley and Dana Crawford, all of Oklahoma City; four granddaughters, Jamie, Stacy, Kelli, and Lenore; brother, Walter Lynn Suggs of Ponca City; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

December 16, 1932 - August 27, 2020

Celebration of Life service for Leroy Eldon Daykin, 87 of Enid, will be 10:00 A.M. Monday August 31, 2020 in the Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Leroy was born December 16, 1932 in Enid to Roy and Catherine Sands Daykin and passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 in Enid. His early growing up years were spent on the corner of Randolph and Oakwood Road where his folks had a home and acreage. Leroy attended Glenwood School, Lincoln, Emerson and Enid High School, graduating with the class of 1950.

He joined the Navy Reserves in 1951 and was on active duty February 6, 1954 through February 6, 1956, stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA and the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. Upon discharge, he enrolled in Enid Business College, 1956-1958 receiving a Bachelor of Commercial Science Degree with Accounting Major.

Early employment was with Franks Machine Shop, George Failing Supply Co., & Champlin Refining Company. Following graduation from Enid Business College in October 1958, he began working for Phillips Petroleum Company of Bartlesville, OK. He worked in Gas Accounting and later moved into Exploration and Development, working with their world wide Budgets as a Senior Capitol Budget Specialist, taking early retirement at the age of 53 years in May 28, 1986.

Leroy became a Mason and was an active member of Lodge #284 AF & AM and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Bartlesville, OK.

Other activities included square dancing and round dancing. He was a member of Bartlesville Square Dance Club, Jane Phillips Square Dance Club, Swingin’ Squares, Drifters & Pioneer Square Dance Clubs.

On December 15, 1988 he married Shirley L. Barbee & gained three step daughters.

Leroy is survived by three step daughters, Debora Laird, Deana Rowley and Dana Crawford all of Oklahoma City, three granddaughters, Jamie Spiers, Stacy Prickett and Kelli Da Silva, six great-grandchildren, two nephews, Terry Alley and Larry Alley. Also a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, sister Erma Lee Alley and brother-in-law, Gerald Alley.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to American Heart Association.
