Wreck Kills Woman, Tot

Dover – A woman and her infant son were killed Tuesday afternoon when her husband apparently fell asleep at the wheel of their car and ran head on into another vehicle about a mile south of Dover on US 81 in Kingfisher County, the Highway Patrol reported.

Dead are: Ruth Ann Bergdall, 20, Lahoma
Derek Ray Bergdall, 1, Lahoma

The patrol said Mrs. Bergdall and her infant son were riding in a northbound car driven by her husband, Mike Bergdall, 20, of Lahoma, at about 2:20 PM when he apparently went to sleep at the wheel. The car went left of the centerline and hit head-on a pickup truck driven by Danny Ray Roberts, 20, Enid.

Both Mrs. Bergdall and the young Bergdall suffered trunk and internal injuries and were pronounced dead on arrival at Kingfisher Hospital, according to investigators.

Bergdall suffered leg, trunk, internal and head injuries in the crash and was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, the patrol said. His condition was unknown.

Authorities said Roberts was treated and released.
