She graduated from Enid High School in 1947 and then attended Oklahoma A&M (OSU today) where she graduated from the Intensive Business School. She was member of Kappa Delta sorority and married James G. Stroup on October 14, 1949. They met in Stillwater. To this union, 3 children were born, Alan, Diana and Patrick. During the years while James was coaching, vacations were spent primarily fishing and water skiing with Alan and Pat. When Jim retired from Phillips University, Jim and Paula hopped in their trailer with their dog and played many golf courses all over Oklahoma. They both loved being outdoors. One of their great accomplishments together was building a Cathedralite geodesic dome home in Enid, which Paula lived in for 35 years. Paula also held several jobs as a bookkeeper for local accountants. She was a member of Central Christian Church since high school.

Survivors include her two sons, Alan and Patrick plus Pat's wife Barbie Anderson and grandchildren including Kelly Stroup, Nickie Jackson, Chris Stroup and wife Emily, Angela Stroup Smith and her husband Brian, Tanna Stroup Donaldson, Garet Stroup and wife Anika and Tristan Stroup, plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.
