Covington Cemetery


The funeral for Gerald Dee Best , 76, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Carrell Still will officiate. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery . Family visitation will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 14, 1932, on a farm north of Nash to Clarence William and Mable Carey Downing Best and died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He grew up and attended school in Gore. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

He married JoAnn Bateman Sept. 12, 1958, in Thomas. They made their home in Enid.

He was a trucker driver for more than 50 years, working for several companies.

He retired from Don Co. Carries of Oklahoma City. He also owned and operated his own truck. He was honored by the American Trucking Association for one million miles accident-free.

Surviving are his wife, JoAnn of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Dee'An Best Stephens of Enid; one brother, Larry M. Best of Florida; one sister, Lois Fern Hooley of Enid; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
