Covington Cemetery



Funeral service for Robert Staples, 84, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Christian Union Church, Douglas, Okla. Rev. Robert Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Robert was born Oct. 18, 1926 to Robert A. and Edith C. Mitchell Staples in Lucien, Okla., and died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at his home in Douglas.

He was given the 12th grade in school because he was drafted into WWII. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Doris Jean McLaren Aug. 18, 1951, in Covington, Okla. She preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1998.

Bob worked for the Frisco Railroad as a bridge inspector. He liked the American Legion and attended Douglas Christian Union Church, when he was able.

Survivors include his children, Mary Staples Barnes, Lloyd Robert Staples and Elaine Jean Staples Ehardt; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Grace; brother, Farold Staples of Guthrie, Okla.; and sister, Lavina Staples McLaren of Alton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; one sister, Lucille, who died in infancy; and some cousins of whom he loved.
