Dorothy Pearl (Goyen) Hunter

July 03, 1928 ~ May 05, 2020

Dorothy Pearl (Goyen) Hunter was born on July 3, 1928 at Richmond, Oklahoma to William Edgar Goyen and Ruby May (Morrison) Goyen. She entered the Kingdom of Heaven on May 5, 2020. She was one of four siblings and attended and graduated high school at Richmond with the class of 1946.

On August 23, 1946, she married Kenneth Dale Hunter. They made their home on the JV Flats South of Lenora. To this union eight children were born. Janice Kay, Nola Marie, Lois Maxine, Virginia Ellen, Kathleen Mae, Barbara Jean, Kenneth Dale, Jr. and William Lewis. She worked alongside her husband farming, raising cattle, gardening, canning, sewing and raising her children. After Kenneth’s death in 1986, she remained on the farm until she was 89 years of age at which time she moved to Weatherwood Assisted Living in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Lenora United Methodist Church. She loved her Lord and Savior and raised her family in a Christian home. She had a genuine love for her family, a dedicated mother who took great pride in her children and grandchildren always supporting them whether it be sporting events, school programs, stock shows or any other activity they were involved in. Summer was a special time for her older grandchildren who spent summers on the farm learning about the farm, getting to know their grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles and learning many life skills from their grandmother, all while creating lasting memories. She was a wonderful seamstress making many of the clothes her daughters wore, homemaker and cook. All of her family loved to come home to a home cooked meal and there were many favorites-homemade egg noodles made with farm fresh eggs and delicious desserts to name a few.

Her favorite hobby was her flower garden. She did love and enjoy beautiful flowers, and spent hours and hours working in her flower garden. Many times you would see her taking a leisurely stroll through her flowers admiring their beauty.

She also loved her cats, dogs, chickens and enjoyed sitting outside watching the farmyard animals, often times with kittens playing at her feet. Another one of her favorite things were trips to the pasture to look at the cattle.

In later years, she enjoyed traveling to various places, playing cards, going to dances, quilting, and supporting the Taloga Senior Citizens Center. She used her sewing skills to make a quilt for each one of her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Hunter, parents Edgar and Ruby Goyen, daughter Nola Hunter, daughter Lois Jordan, grandson Kevin Jordan, brother and sister in law Raymond (Dollie) Goyen, brother in law Gunther Rehling, sister in law Ruby (Jim) Richardson, and sister in law Renee (Sam) Grasinger.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Jan Maitland, Ellen (Arlan) Steers, Kathleen Hunter, Barbara (Gary) Hook, Kenny (Meshell) Hunter and Billy Hunter, son in law Robert Jordan. Grandchildren Bill (Melissa) Maitland, Brian (Jammie) Maitland, Karie (Brian) Moorehead, Cody Crabtree, Kelly Hunter, Kyle Hunter and Denee Rosecrans, Johnna Hunter and Emmitt Smith, Colt Hunter and Katelyn Parker, Clay Hunter and fourteen great grandchildren. Brother Ivan (Lyndell) Goyen, sister Wilma Rehling, special cousins Jerry and Ina Mae Bowser, and a host of other family members, nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

The cornerstone of our family, she was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. She taught her children well and she will be missed dearly for many years to come.

Memorials may be made to the Riley Cemetery in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859.
