Joseph Rouse Jr

Born: November 24, 1961
Died: December 14, 2010

Joseph Rouse, Jr. was born on November 24, 1961 at Ft Benning, Georgia to Joseph, Sr. and Ruby Lee Rouse. The Lord called him home from his suffering on December 14, 2010 at his home in Lawton, Oklahoma.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Lynn Anderson, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 PM on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home with the family in attendance.

Joseph was raised and attended school in Lawton, OK. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1981 and enlisted in the US Army. After completing basic training, Joseph started AIT, but received an honorable, hardship discharge so he could return home and help care for his father.

He returned to school as time permitted and, through the years, completed training as a plumber, diesel mechanic and an Emergency Medical Technician. He worked in each of these fields through the years, but eventually was forced to retire due to physical limitations in 2004.

Joseph was baptized as a child at St John’s Missionary Baptist Church here in Lawton, and re-affirmed his faith in 2003 at Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL.

Joseph enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Rouse, Sr. and 2 sisters, Rose Barrientez and Arlenda Washington.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ruby Rouse of Lawton; a daughter, Kandice Brown; sisters, Anita McDowell and husband Johnny of Odessa, TX, Stephanie Russell and husband Don of Lawton, OK, Cmdr. Audrey Santana, ret, of Atlanta, GA, and Cynthia Johnson-Flemister of Lawton, OK; brothers, Darrow James Rouse and wife Angela of Lawton, OK, SFC Randal Rouse, ret, and wife Elin in Germany, and Derrius Jovon Rouse and wife April of Houston, TX; an aunt, Irene Bell of Jacksonville, FL; nieces, Dana Boatner, Christina Santana, LaCresha Johnson, Channel McDowell, Ashley Russell, Trinity, Leandra, Jemeca, Merilyn & Amber Price, Dwan Smith, and Amolia Rouse; nephews, Stanley Barrientez, Jr and his wife Shunvier, Wesley, John Michael & Ryan McDowell, Roy L. Johnson, Jr and his wife Amber, and Willas & Markus Rouse; great nieces, De’Shonda Washington, Jayla Santana, Asah Johnson, India & Kenya Jenkins, Kennedy & Alana Russell, Saryah Johnson, Da’Nya, Dymond & Di-Asha Smith; great nephews, Stanley & London Barrientez, Jabar Santana, Daveon & Devonne Smith; cousins, Angela Brown in Alabama, Eleanor Brown, Kathy Polk, Kenneth Carter, Jacqueline Green, Belinda Carter, Renaldo Carter & Kuwana Polk, all of Jacksonville, FL; Joe’s companion, Jeanine Montgomery of Lawton, OK, her children, Kristina and Chad, and her grandchildren, Alyssa, Christian, Robert & Chad, Jr; adopted aunts, La Francis Walker and La Frances Regret, both of Jacksonville, FL, and many, many other extended family members and friends.
