Kenneth Hopkins

Dates:
Birth date: November 12, 1952
Death date: January 25, 2014

Kenneth Hopkins was born on November 12, 1952 at Ft Sill, OK to Willie Hopkins, Jr. and Lula [Anderson] Hopkins. He died on January 25, 2014 in Ft Lauderdale, FL.

Kenneth was raised and attended school in Lawton, graduating from Lawton High in 1971. He was active in sports while attending school, and was selected as All-Area pulling guard his senior year. Kenneth went on to Northeastern Oklahoma University on a football scholarship, and then to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelor's degree. He undertook his graduate studies in economics at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA.

After moving to Florida, Kenneth opened a wholesale seafood business and eventually partnered with Pernell Williams to open District Healthcare in southern Florida.

Kenneth was active in his community, supporting elementary sports teams and attending numerous youth sporting events in the area. He enjoyed conversation, especially about politics, and considered it a "competitive sport." The true passion for Ken Hopkins was his business; however, a rod & reel could usually be found in his truck. On a daily basis he shared his energy, dedication, enthusiasm, and generosity with those he encountered.

Kenneth was close to his family and leaves a large gap in the family circle with his passing. He was preceded in death by his father Willie Hopkins, Jr. and a sister, Beatrice Hopkins.

Survivors include his mother, Lula Hopkins of Lawton; four brothers, Ronald Hopkins of Lawton, Daniel Hopkins (Sheila) of Aurora, CO, Raymond Hopkins (Lavinia) of Richmond, VA, and Alan Hopkins (Katrina) of Pontiac, MI; a sister, Joanna Davis of Gainesville, FL; nieces, DeShawnna Davis, Cherice Hopkins, Shavonna Cohen, Rosamond Hopkins, Shariana Spears, Marissa Hopkins, and Lauren Hopkins; nephews, Paul Davis (Cortez), Brandon Hopkins (Elizabeth), KarDaryl Spears, Randall Hopkins, Jordan Hopkins, and Justin Hopkins; four aunts, Margie Young, Lula H. Anderson, Mary Holmes and Martha Young; numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
