Walter George Gilbert

Walter George Gilbert, Lawton, was born August 22, 1929 to Fouke, Arkansas to Amos and Willie May [Thomas] Gilbert. He passed away May 25, 2016 at the age of 86.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 4pm-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at First United Pentecostal Church, 9th and G Ave, Lawton. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Walter was a self-made man. He was a jack-of-all -trades and enjoyed welding, designing wreckers, trailers, and walkers. He was also an automotive mechanic and painter and painted church buses. He was a selfless man and enjoyed helping others. He built metal staircases for a church and camp, and helped the elderly by building railings for them.

He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Hodge Gilbert; sister, Helen Knott; brother, Jack Gilbert; sister, Ouida Gilbert; and granddaughter, Kimberly DelaGarza.

Survivors include his son, Billy Gilbert of Lawton; daughter, Nina MacGirvin and husband George of Lawton; sister, Margie Reeves of Sunset, SC; sister, Shirley Wright of Lawton; brother, William Gilbert of Sims, TX; sister, Ina Jean Gilbert of Lawton; brother, Michael Gilbert of Hooks, TX; sister, Linda Rayburn of Sierra Vista, AZ; grandson, Jeremy Gilbert of Lawton; granddaughter, April Wagoner of Lawton; granddaughter, Brenda Conley of Lawton; grandson, Jason Meyer of Lawton; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Billie Jo [Hodge] Gilbert

Birth date: April 20, 1934
Death date: June 20, 2014

Billie Jo Gilbert, 80, of Lawton, was born April 20, 1934 in Apache, OK to Jacob and Verdie [Harris] Hodge. She died at a local care facility on June 20, 2014.

Billie grew up and attended school in Apache where she graduated.

She married Walter Gilbert and together they had two children. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed reading the Bible.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Verdie; sister, Juanita Manley; brother-in-law, Donald Manley.

Survivors include her husband, Walter, of the home; son, Billy Gilbert, of the home; daughter, Nina Faye MacGirvin and husband George, of Lawton; sister, Mary Alice Jenkins, of Duncan; grandchildren, April Waggoner and husband Kenneth, Jeremy Gilbert and wife Stephanie, Brenda Conley, and Jason Meyer, all of Lawton; seven great-grandchildren.
