Evelyn Maryann [Proud] Weber


Funeral for Evalyn Mary Ann Weber, 96, Paradise Valley, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, at Paradise Valley Baptist Church, north of Lawton, with the Rev. Donny Crittendon, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. Weber died Saturday, March 7, 2009, in a local hospital.

Burial will be in Paradise Valley Cemetery under direction of Becker Funeral Home, Lawton.

She was born Sept. 24, 1912, in Eyota, Minn., to Arthur and Mary Proud.

She grew up in Rochester, Minn., and graduated from Rochester High School.

She graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester as a registered nurse. She moved to Cuba and worked in the American Hospital in Havana for four years. Returning to the U.S. at the outbreak of World War II, she worked as a nurse in the Rockefeller Hospital in New York City until she was commissioned in the Army Nurse's Corps, Mayo Clinic Unit. She served in the Southwest Pacific Theater of the war until 1945.

She married Arthur R. Weber July 10, 1944, in Seguin, Texas.

They lived in Midwest City until 1960, and then moved to Paradise Valley near Elgin.

She worked at Comanche County Memorial Hospital until 1966. She then became an instructor at the Great Plains Technical Center Licensed Practical Nurse Program. She retired from that position in 1980. She was involved in the Paradise Valley Ladies Home Extension Club. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law: Paul and Suzanne Weber, Albuquerque, N.M.; Philip Weber, and Charles and Marianne Weber, of the home; four grandchildren and their spouses: Darcy and Niall Gibson, Maryland; Ryan Weber, Vermont; Mark and Stephanie Weber, New Mexico; and David Weber, Colorado; six great-grandchildren: Jacob Weber, Vermont; Thomas and John Weber, Maryland; and Meredith, Eric and Nadia Weber, all of New Mexico; and many nieces and nephews in Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and a sister.
