Shirley Ann [Meeks] Bohn
April 07, 1937 ~ June 19, 2016

Shirley Ann Bohn, 79, Faxon, received her wings in heaven on June 19, 2016.

Services will be held at Whinery Huddleston's Funeral home on June 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. followed by burial at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK.

Her oldest son, Robert Bohn and grandson Branden Bohn, will be officiating the services.

Shirley was born on 4-7-37 in Albert [Oney], Oklahoma to Floy and Nellie Meeks.

She resided in Albert until she married Coyle "Joe" Bohn after only knowing each other three days. They celebrated their 58th anniversary last year. Shirley supported her husband's military career. The family resided in Lawton/Ft. Sill, OK in between duty stations elsewhere such as Ft. Riley, KS, El Paso, TX, and three tours in Germany.

She was a past member of the Night Owls, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, and President of the NCO Wives Club.

She was also a realtor for many years.

When her husband was stationed in Vietnam in 1965, she wrote a letter to the Oklahoma City Daily News about the needs of military personnel serving in Vietnam. She was trying to gather personal hygiene items for the troops fighting in the war. The letter went nationwide. Citizens and corporations throughout the United States donated tons of supplies to be sent overseas. The initiative was titled "Operation Snowball/Operation Merry Christmas".

Shirley was known for her fried pies, chocolate cake, sewing skills, love of animals, constant smile and being the pillar of strength in the family. She was known as "Grandma" to many.

Shirley was focused on making sure the needs of others were met before taking care of herself. One individual recently stated, "What a neat lady she was and will always be."

Preceded in death by her parents, Floy and Nellie Meeks; son-in-laws, Randy Maples and Cecil Matthew, great-grandson, Gunner Bohn, and niece, Sallie Mickle.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; daughter, Ann Matthew of Frederick, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Bohn of Sterling, OK; daughter, Jody Maples of Lawton, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Laura Bohn of Jenks, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Mindy Bohn of Wichita Falls, TX; Helmut Nunez-Morales of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren: JJ Olsen, BJ Olsen, Coyle Olsen, Kelli Westfahl, Branden Bohn, Nicole Bohn, Clint Maples, Heather Maples ,Chris Wanless, Matt Wanless, Alex Bohn, Loftin Davoult, Jantzen Davoult, Nina Nunez-Morales, numerous great-grandchildren, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Marilyn Cuykendall, niece and spouse, Emily and Mike Keller;nephew and spouse, Josh and Courtney Cuykendall; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Finis Oliphant, nieces and spouses, Cindy and Barry Kelley, Shelly and Gary Disse, and niece Penny Oliphant and countless other children who referred to her as "Grandma".

Visitation with family will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8 pm at Whinery Huddleston's in Lawton.
