John Edward Batten

John Batten, Lawton, was born November 15, 1968 in Indiana, Pennsylvania to William George and Donna Marie Batten. He died unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at the age of 46.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2015 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 3:00pm at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Lawton.

Burial with military honors will be held Monday, September 28, 2015 at 11:00am at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.

John graduated high school as a proud Red Dragon from Purchase Line in Commodore.

After high school John joined the Army, where he served in Desert Storm, until he transitioned to civilian life so his children could put down roots.

He spent his entire adult life putting his children first and loved being a dad. He drove the Sunday school van for First Baptist East and was active in Boy Scouts. He enjoyed camp outs and being a leader in Thomas's unit. John worked for Lawton Public Schools for over 20 years and made friends at Douglas, Lawton High, and Central Middle School. As head custodian of CMS, he served the community by taking care of the faculty and kids.

He was a proud Steelers fan.

He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, and father.

He is survived by both parents; sister, Angela Batten, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. In Oklahoma he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Kimberly; step-son, Joseph Shoefstall, adopted son, Daniel Batten; youngest son, Thomas Batten of the home; and many extended family members and friends.
