Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 Eugene Franklin Bales Jr Graveside service for retired Staff Sgt. Eugene Franklin Bales Jr., 65, of Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Mr. Bales passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, in Lawton. Arrangements are under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Eugene was born April 3, 1949, in Chicago, to Eugene F. Bales Sr. and Lucille Bales. He grew up in Chicago, where he attended school. He joined the United States Army on March 9, 1969, and served his country until retiring on March 31, 1989. While in the military, he received many awards and medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He then worked as a handyman for several motels and apartment complexes. He married Deborah Ruth Ackerman and she passed away on April 26, 2004. He married Paula Renee Kerr on Feb. 14, 2014, in Lawton. Eugene enjoyed playing games on the computer and liked working with scrap metal. He loved listening to music. He also loved spending time with family and friends and cooking for them. He is survived by his wife, Paula, of the home; his sons and their spouses: Robert and Tabatha Bales, of Trenton, Ga.; Joseph and Alisha Bales, and Donald Bales, all of Lawton; his stepsons and spouse: Michael and Donna Tate, and Jimmy Tate, all of Lawton; his brother, Joseph Bales, of Trenton, Tenn.; his sister, Marie Patrick, of Trenton; and two grandsons: Joshua Bales and Zachary Bales. He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Deborah. |
