Arthur Locklear

January 8, 1922 ~ October 13, 2010

Locklear, Arthur B., 88, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in Norman, Oklahoma at the Veterans Center. He was born January 8, 1922 in Lumberton, North Carolina to Phillip and Mary (Hardin) Locklear. He was united in marriage to Anna Maria Eck in 1946 in Eilbestadt, Germany.
Arthur served his country in the United States Army starting in September 1942 and retired in 1975 after 33 years as an NCO Sergeant First Class as an Engineer Aid to the Nato Commander. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and WWII Occupation Ribbon and Combat Infantry Badge of the 119th Infantry. He served in 3 combat theatres, WWII, Normandy Invasion, Korea and Vietnam. During WWII he served in the Normandy Invasion, Northern France and Central Europe, Ardennes and Rhineland battles and campaigns. He served in Paris, France for Shape Headquarters and in Belgium as Engineer Aid to all Nato Commanders. After retiring in 1975, Arthur was employed at Tinker Air Force Base for 15 years retiring in 1988. He enjoyed road trips, working in the yard, fixing things for other people and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Maria; his son, Arthur Locklear and wife Ginger of Norman, Oklahoma and niece, Francis Deringer of New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Nevda, Leola, Gurt and Viola and brother, O.J.
