Ernest Corrigan

December 27, 1933 - May 08, 2018

Ernest Louis Corrigan, age 84, of Lawton passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. At the time of his death he was living at the Lawton / Ft. Sill Veterans Center.
Ernest was born December 27, 1933 in Texas City, Galveston, Texas. He was the son of Elmer Leroy Corrigan and Harriet Madalyn Wilson Corrigan. Ernest joined the United States Army in 1954 and served in the Korean War. He was a Cannoneer of the 31st Artillery Battalion and fired the battalion's highest score of 238 points. He trained as a paratrooper in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Ernest also trained at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was an avid bowler and won several tournaments. He was crowned the Roll-Off Champion of the Altus Men's Bowling Association. His favorite love in life was fishing. He spent much of his life in Galveston fishing on Pier 61. Ernest fished wherever there was water. He spent many hours on the deck feeding and watching the fish at the Veterans Center. Ernest has left many close friends and veterans at the Veterans Center. He was known for his kindness and loyalty and he found joy in other people's happiness.
Preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Leroy Corrigan and Harriet Madalyn Wilson Corrigan, and birth father, Walter Louis Hampton, and a brother, Patrick Leroy Corrigan, Ernest is survived by his three children, Gregory Louis Corrigan of Hemphill, Texas, Wendy Lindberg and her husband Tom of Anchorage, Alaska and Jay Lynn Corrigan, now living in Australia. Ernest was the grandfather of four grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Cory, and Ashlyn. He also is survived by a brother, Robert Wayne Corrigan and his wife, Robin, of Springer, Oklahoma and a sister, Judy Corrigan Lunt and her husband, Ned of Rio Medina, Texas.
