Tracy, Betty Jane (Pierce) was a woman of her generation.  She exemplified the term homemaker and took care of her husband and children with humor, grace and enthusiasm.  She passed away in Tulsa, OK on June 6, 2011 at the age of 90 at Oklahoma Methodist Manor.  Her parents were Clarence Pierce and Leah Lucille Lashbrook of Mattoon, IL.  She will be remembered as putting family first and was not only devoted to her immediate family but kept her extended family in her heart throughout her lifetime.

Mrs. Tracy spent her formative years and raised her children to young adulthood in Mattoon, Illinois where the extended family also lived.  A move to Terre Haute, Indiana and then to Norman, Oklahoma would punctuate her final years.  She will be remembered fondly for the love, devotion and caring she put into her family, home and church.  She was always so proud of the accomplishments of her family and was generous in her praise.

Her life was enriched by her devotion to McFarlin Methodist Church and she encouraged her children in a wonderful balance of faith, fun and learning.  She was a passionate reader her whole life and she passed this love for books along to her children.  She often was involved in her children's extracurricular activities including church youth groups, vacation Bible school, Girl Scouts and PTA.  She was also a wonderful cook and is remembered for her delicious meals.

But by far, she leaves behind a family with tremendous gratitude for all she brought to their lives and the values she instilled.  She will be greatly missed by her two loving daughters, Susan Diane Contreras (Carmichael, CA) and Norma Jane Vantine (Tulsa, OK) and their husbands, Joel Contreras and Jerry Vantine.  She left four cherished grandchildren including Chad, Maya and Marin Contreras and Tony White.  She also had 3 great grandchildren, Shane Clanton, Paige White, Isabella Contreras and one great great grandchild, Callen Clanton.  Francis Ann Pierce Sanders (Mattoon, IL) her sister, survives Mrs. Tracy.  She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 75 years, Norman Edward Tracy; her only son, Richard Eugene Tracy; and one sister, Martha Pierce Prentice and her stepmother, Dorothy Bell Pierce.

Memorials may be made to the Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster, Norman, OK 73069. The family will receive friends 8:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Warren Cemetery in Norman, OK under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Place of Birth:  McClusky, North Dakota

Known as one of those unique, strong, men from “The Greatest Generation”, Norman Edward Tracy passed away in Tulsa, OK on 11/12/10 from an apparent heart attack at age 94.  He proudly maintained his independence to the end.  His parents were John Marion Tracy and Mary Wilhelmina Strong Tracy of Mattoon, IL.

He will be remembered as a caring family man who was not only devoted to his immediate family but in the recent years took his role as the senior leader to heart.  He maintained contact and acted as a trusted advisor to all of his remaining family including nephews and nieces.

Mr. Tracy spent his formative years and raised his children to young adulthood in Mattoon, Illinois where the extended family also lived.  Being recruited for his skills, Mr. Tracy then spent the last 50 years of his life in his beloved Norman, OK.  He retired at the age of 70 after working most of his life as a tool and die maker, finishing his career in management at Balon Corporation in Oklahoma City.  His co-workers and supervisors always spoke highly of his attention to detail and his ability to find the solution for any problem.

His life was enriched by his devotion to his faith and in the Methodist Church, especially McFarlin Methodist Church; being an expert wood worker; fishing and the outdoors; and gardening that he learned while being raised on a farm.  Following his retirement, he put his attention to detail and perfection into the game of golf, where he became a par golfer and made a hole in one within a year.

But by far, he leaves behind a family with tremendous gratitude for all he brought to their lives and the values he instilled.  He will be greatly missed by his wife of 75 years, Betty Jane Pierce Tracy, his two loving daughters Susan Diane Contreras (Carmichael, CA) and Norma Jane Vantine (Tulsa, OK) and their husbands, Joel Contreras and Jerry Vantine. He left four cherished grandchildren including Chad, Maya and Marin Contreras and Tony White.  He also had 3 great grandchildren: Shane Clanton, Paige White, Isabella Contreras and one great, great grandchild, Callen Clanton.  Francis Ann Pierce Sanders (Mattoon, IL) his sister-in-law survives Mr. Tracy.  He will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews and their children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his only son, Richard Eugene Tracy, and two brothers Harold and John Tracy.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Norman, OK with burial immediately following at Warren Cemetery.
