My beloved husband, Tom Davis “Mort” Morton, age 68, passed away January 5, 2011, in Bradenton, Florida, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.  He was a loving and generous husband, father and grandfather.

Tom was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma, on August 28, 1942, to Tom Elmer and Frankie Pauline (Davis) Morton.  He graduated from Ft. Worth, Texas, high school in 1960.  He served in the US National Guard after high school.  He received his B.S. in accounting from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1972. He passed his CPA exam in 1973 and received his MBA from Oklahoma City University (with honors) in 1984.  He worked for several small companies before working for Halliburton, Duncan, Oklahoma.  During his tenure with Halliburton he worked in several foreign countries:  Mexico, Algeria and Brazil.  He loved the adventures and enjoyed eating the local cusine; seeing all the different sights and just doing local activities.

Mr. Morton is survived by his devoted wife, Joan, of Ellenton, Florida; son, Tom Y. Morton and wife “Cricket” of Duncan, Oklahoma; daughter, Michele Morton of San Antonio, Texas; stepdaughter, Weena McKenzie and husband, Robert of Daytona Beach, Florida and stepson, Jayson Smith and partner Josette of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Tom K. Morton and Gabriel S. Morton of Monroe, Louisiana; and a granddaughter, Josephine L Barrera of San Antonio, Texas; and stepgrandson, Chris Maddux of Ellenton, Florida.  Sister, Sally Morton of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Michael Morton and Wife Stephanie of Oxford, Ohio; Benjamin Morton and wife Bonnie of San Marcus, Texas; Mary Morton Johnson and husband Paul of Reno, Nevada; and several nephews.

Tom was predeceased in death by his parents and a nephew, Christopher Morton.

Tom was proud to be an Eagle Scout and was a leader for many years.  He also enjoyed cooking, reading, hunting, golf, woodturning and traveling.  After retirement he especially loved spending his summers in our home in Maine.  He made many friends while there and enjoyed the quiet, peaceful beauty and the cool ocean air.

Visitation will be held 3:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 10, 2011 at Havenbrook Funeral Home.

Services will be held 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 11, 2011 in the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Warren Cemetery under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
