Gladys Ilene (Barton) McCaslin

Gladys Ilene (Barton) McCaslin was born August 4, 1929 in Grady County, Oklahoma.  She attended Minco and Mustang elementary schools and Norman High School until she married Benjamin Holly McCaslin on September 28, 1946.  They moved to California where they lived in Tehachapi, Bakersfield and Boron.  Mrs. McCaslin attended Beauty College in San Bernardino, California and later owned Desert Girl Beauty Salon.  In June, 1966 her family moved to Lexington and later to Slaughterville, Oklahoma, where they owned Scottie’s Propane Service, Professional Coiffures and Boutique, Ben’s Mobile Home Park and McCaslin Airpark.  She donated land to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department and was a supporter of the Slaughterville Volunteer Fire Department.  Mrs. McCaslin was a pilot and a member of 99’s, a woman’s pilot organization.  She cherished the opportunity to provide scholarships for aspiring women pilots through the 99’s.  She enjoyed skydiving, gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and spending time with friends.  She resided at The Gardens at Rivermont, in Norman and Brookdale in Farmers Branch, Texas before her death on February 3, 2015.  


She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Holly McCaslin, her grandson Christopher Todd Edgar and her brother Aaron Barton of Stillwell, OK.   

She is survived by her daughter Holly Ilene (McCaslin) Darwin and her husband, Michael Darwin of Tucson AZ, her grandson Colin McCaslin Edgar, his wife Heidi and her great-granddaughter Emily Edgar of Carrollton TX, by three sisters:  Eunice Hendrick of Oklahoma City, OK, Ruth Hatfield of Stillwell, OK, and Margaret Hatchett of Bunch, OK and by two sisters-in-law Jewell Childress and Billie Shaw both of Norman, OK.  She is also survived by her step-grandchildren: Dana Price and her husband Michael of Santo TX, Michael Darwin and wife Cyndi of Tampa, FL, and Mark Darwin and his wife Sheri of Virginia Beach VA.   She had 8 step-great grandchildren and 8 step-great-great grandchildren. 

All feel blessed and grateful to have had her in their lives. 


A graveside service will be held on February 21 at 11 am at IOOF Noble Cemetery Noble, Oklahoma.


In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations be made in Gladys’ name to The National Stroke Association.
