Services for John Odas McCalip, 83, Noble, who dies Monday, Dec 18, 1989 in Norman Regional Hospital, after an extended illness, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in McMahan's Chapel of Prayer in Noble. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Maguire with military graveside rites conducted by an honor guard from Fort Sill.
Mr. McCalip was born south of Noble on April 16, 1906, to Andy and Fannie McCalip. He attended Rocky Point and Denver schools. He lived east of Noble until moving south of Noble 26 years ago.
During 1942-43 he served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Federal Aviation administration at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City. He also had been a farmer. He was a Baptist.
In January 1942, he married Merle Woodrow in Norman. His wife of 47 years survives.
Other Survivors include three sons, Olen of Noble, John W. of Independence, MO. and Calvin A. of Paden; four daughters, Juanita Harris of Bethany, Linda Huffman and Rhonda Hinch of Norman and Ramonita McCalip of the home; a brother Ibrey of Norman; a sister, Lottie Sterling of Norman; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother, bill and two sister, Edna Meyer and Della Carpenter.
Bearers will be Billy Slate, Mike Jones, James Dean Sterling, Jim Smith, Lonnie McCalip, and Troy Hinkle. Honorary bearers will be Lloyd Houck, Orville Champeau, James Prentice, Cat Harmon, Wendell Young, Homer McCalip, Elmer Morrison, Kenneth Robertson, Marshall Doon Kean and John McCalip.
