Leon Kertis Witt went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 29, 2019. He was born March 9, 1929 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was the 3rd child of 4 children born to Lee Martin and Hattie Mae (Woodrow) Witt. Leon was born and raised in the flats out west of Norman. He lived in Norman all of his life except for 12 years in Wanette, OK.

He married Lucille Newville on December 26.1950 and had worked in construction until he entered the Army. When he left the Army he went to work for Fred Jones Lincoln-Mercury as a mechanic for 14 years. Upon leaving Fred Jones he went to work at Tinker Air Force base until his retirement.

Leon attended Norman schools and Oklahoma University. He helped organize the Oklahoma branch of the National Trappers Association. He was an ordained deacon and an active member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he served on many committees. He was also a member of the senior choir and did volunteer work. At the age of 56 Leon took his first piano lesson and became quite proficient.

Leon loved the outdoors and became a trapper at the early age of 10. He was quite skilled and trapped for 80 years of his life. He had many skills and took great pride in everything he did especially sharing his knowledge with younger boys.

He was proceeded in death by: His parents, Lee and Hattie Witt, Wife Ella Lucille Witt Son, Steven Witt, Brother,Lewis Witt

He is survived by: One son,Kertis Witt and wife Merilyn of San Marcos, TX, One sister,Eunice Fox of Moore, OK., One brother,Robert Witt and wife Gloria Witt, A daughter-in-law, Chris Witt of Doniphan, MO. Six grandchildren,Brett Witt of Mulvane, KS, Kandi Witt of Summerville, SC,Morgan Witt of Austin, TX, Danny Kristek of Pretty Prairie, KS,Jeremiah Kristek of Edmond, OK and Brad Lankard of Wichita, KS, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Lexington cemetery, Lexington, OK. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Bereavement Committee.
