Longtime Lexington resident, Maymie Thompson, entered the Gates of Heaven on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 6 days.

Maymie Lillian Wasson was born March 4, 1918, near Bear Creek in Searcy County, Arkansas. She was the 2nd of 10 children born to W.D. and Mary Wasson. She spent her early childhood in Searcy County before moving to Oklahoma and settling in the Corbett Community east of Lexington. Maymie married the late Clarence Holloway and to this union a daughter, Pat was born. Later in life, she married Willie Thompson and to this union a daughter, Lisa was born.   Maymie, by her very nature, was a caregiver. She began working at Central State Hospital at the Lexington Annex location, and then eventually transferring to Norman until her retirement. Throughout the years, she acquired vast experience and used this to care for and help many people as a nurse there.   When not working, Maymie enjoyed spending time with her family, reading her bible, working in her garden, tending to her flowers and vegetables. She was known by her family for her famous cream corn. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, of any kind. She was a strong woman and of great faith; she loved the Lord and cherished her family and leaves a lasting legacy for her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her very giving spirit and always helping those in need. She will be dearly missed!
