© Gracemont Herald Gracemont, Oklahoma 27 March 1917 Charlie May Venable September 15, 1911 ~ March 26, 1917 Charley May, the five year old daughter of Mr. And Mrs. W.L. Venable of Spring Creek died Sunday night at the Chickasha hospital, where she was carried Saturday for an operation for appendicitis, but the hospital physicians told Mr. Venable that the child could not recover and that an operation was useless. The body was shipped back Monday and was interred in the Spring Creek Cemetery, Rev. Taylor of Verden conducted the funeral service. The sorrowing parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their dad bereavement. |
© Steverson Funeral Home Anadarko, Oklahoma Saturday, 31 January 2009 Wayne Allen Venable Sr July 13, 1925 ~ January 29, 2009 Wayne Allen Venable, Sr., 83, was born July 13, 1925, north of Gracemont, Oklahoma, to William L. and Myrtle C. [Harrison] Venable. He passed from this life Thursday, January 29, 2009 at his home north of Anadarko. Wayne attended Star School until he was ten years old, then attended Verden Schools when his family moved northeast of Verden. He was drafted into the U.S. Army before graduation, and was given an honorary diploma. Following his discharge after the war, during which he was awarded two Purple Hearts, he enrolled in Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City through the GI Bill. He and the former Charlotte Nowland were married on August 14, 1948 in Anadarko. That same year, he was hired as one of the first four Insurance Adjusters for the Oklahoma Farm Bureau when it was established. They lived in Anadarko for awhile and then moved 10 miles northeast of Anadarko and could watch Chickasha Lake being built from their kitchen window. They built their present home in 1951 and established Char~Wayne Farms. He was a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, the American Angus Association, and the American Chianina Association. He served as President of the Caddo County Farm Bureau, and was a delegate to the State Farm Bureau several times. As a youngster, Wayne was baptized and joined Spring Creek Baptist Church. As an adult, he became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anadarko. Wayne had little time for hobbies, but always had time for his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents a brother, Ray Venable four sisters, Mollie McClure, Fay Carr, Charlie Mae Venable and Willie Blue and newphew Dewayne Venable. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of the home two sons, W.A. "Dub" Venable, Jr. and wife Gayle, and Rick Venable, all of Anadarko and his grandchildren, Cody Venable of Anadarko, Chelsea Venable of Crowley, Texas, Brent Wayne Venable of Oklahoma City, and Ashley Oswald and husband Dustin of Fort Cobb and one great-grandchild, Hayden Oswald of Fort Cobb one brother Earl Venable and wife Janet of Verden two sisters, Lena Talkington of Dallas and Thelma Powell of Lawton other relatives and many friends, including a special friend Nelda McMahan of Cyril. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 31 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery. Viewing will be 9:00 A.M. until noon Saturday at Steverson Funeral Home, Anadarko. |

Venable, 90 of Anadarko, Oklahoma will be Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Charlotte was born March 26, 1927 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to William Adolph and Ruth (Proffit) Nowland. She married Wayne A. Venable, who preceded her in death in 2009, on August 14, 1948. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1948 with her bachelors degree. She began a teaching career of twenty five years in Home economics beginning in Gracemont and ended up in Anadarko retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Her goal in life was family and ranching. She is survived by 2 sons: Dub and wife Gayle Venable of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Rick Venable of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Grandchildren: Cody Venable of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ashley Oswald of Binger, Oklahoma; Chelsea Venable-Cooper and husband Michael of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Brent Venable and wife Jasmine of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, Great-Grandchildren: Hayden Oswald, Cadence Oswald, Josalyn Venable, Duke Cooper, Ashley Oswald of Binger, Oklahoma; Chelsea Venable-Cooper and husband Michael of Anadarko, Oklahoma; Brent Venable and wife Jasmine of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma, Great-Grandchildren: Hayden Oswald, Cadence Oswald, Legend Cooper, Boone Venable, A host of nieces and nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by here parents, husband Wayne A. Rev. Troy Taylor will officiate. Earl was born the son of William Lee Venable and Myrtle Harrison Venable on October 14, 1932 in Spring Creek, Oklahoma. He died on April 11, 2017 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Earl graduated from Verden High School in 1952. He worked on the family farm and married Janet Sue Schenk in 1956. Earl spent a short time in the United States Army then returned to Verden to work on the family farm. He was a farmer/rancher all of his life and also worked at the Bank of Verden for about ten years. Earl attended the Verden United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six sisters; two brothers. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Carl Lee and Pam Venable of Verden; son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Cindy Venable of Tuttle; grandchildren: Danielle and Brittany Venable, Chris, Tanner and Keifer Venable, Kevin Creekmore, and Kersten Stambaugh; great grandchildren: Braden, McKenna and Trace; other family and friends. Interment will be in Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
© Steverson Funeral Home Anadarko, Oklahoma Saturday, 31 January 2009 Janet Sue [Schenk] Venable January 11, 1938 ~ January 19, 2012 Funeral service for Janet Sue Venable, age 74 of Verden, Okla., will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, in the Verden United Methodist Church. Rev. David Gardner will officiate. Janet Sue was born the daughter of Carl Schenk and Vivian Higgins Schenk on Jan. 11, 1938 at the family home north of Verden, Oklahoma. She died on Jan. 19, 2012, at her home in Verden. Janet grew up and lived in the Verden area all of her life. She graduated from Verden High School in 1956. During her senior year, she married Earl C. Venable on Feb. 23, 1956. Janet worked for the Soil Conservation Office in Anadarko for a short time before beginning work for the Bank of Verden. She began at the Bank of Verden by selling insurance, later moved to cashier, and retired after forty-eight years as executive vice-president. Janet was a member of the Verden United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Vivian Schenk. Survivors include her husband, Earl Venable of Verden; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Lee and Pam Venable of Verden; son and daughter-in-law: Rodney and Cindy Venable of Tuttle; grandchildren, Danielle and Brittany Venable, Chris, Tanner, and Keifer Venable and Kevin Creekmore; great Grandchildren: Braden, McKenna and Trace; sister, Carolyn Horton of Chickasha; brother, Lee Roy Schenk of Marlow; numerous family and many dear friends. Interment will be in the Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |

He was born Jan 2, 1948 in Anadarko, OK to Ray C. & Betty Lee [Emmons] Venable. He lived in Oklahoma City, OK and was a member of Elks Lodge. He was a member of Church of Verden. Dwayne owned Midstate Traffic Control. Dwayne is survived by his wife of the home, Mary Venable; mother, Betty Venable; two daughters, Teresa Marie Tisdell and husband Tony of Choctaw, OK and Stacy Rae and husband Steve of Tamborra, GA; one brother Randy & wife Kathy Venable of Blanchard, OK; one grandchild, Josephine Marie Tisdell; nephew Dusty & Sarah Venable and Kevin Venable and a host of friends.
