Ouida Jean [Underwood] McGinty

Ouida McGinty, 93, died on Thursday, March 15, 2018 in Stillwater, OK. Funeral services will be at 10:00am on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the University Heights Baptist Church in Stillwater, OK. Reverend John Bugg and Dr. Tom Westbrook will be officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00pm in the Gracemont Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

  She was born on November 22, 1924 to Bert Underwood and Ethel [Hardy] Underwood in Gracemont, Oklahoma.

She married the love of her life, Eben Robert McGinty on September 11, 1965, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Ouida’s life was full of adventure. She held a pilot’s license and even had Secret Service clearance. Continuing her education, she ventured out to California after business school to become a secretary but could earn more building Liberty Ships. She was a woman who loved learning and often studied the meanings of words and had a deep love for crossword puzzles. Ouida excelled in everything she did. She won first place at the Texas State Fair for her paintings using Pen Staff. She was also held in high regards for her piano and musical skills.

She was kind to every person she met and would give you a hug whether you wanted one or not.

While working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Anadarko, Oklahoma, her kindness was repaid with gifts of silver and hand-beaded items by the Indian Clients.

Ouida loved reading, leopard print fabrics, musicals in Branson, Missouri, and she especially loved her family gatherings, holidays, birthdays and Sunday lunches after church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Camilla Dean and brother John Tom.

  She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Eben Robert McGinty, son, Bob Chapman of Moore, OK; daughters, Scarlette Hall [Ron] of Stillwater, OK and Marilyn [McGinty] Manuel of Stratford, OK. Grandchildren Shannon Kennedy, Kelli Bonds, Kassidy Malone of Moore, OK and Sarah Null of Argyle, TX and 8 great – grandchildren.
