George Washington Smith

George Washington Smith was born September 14, 1861, and departed this life March 3, 1927, aged 65 years, 5 months and 16 days.

He was married January 1, 1886, to Jennie Reynolds. To this union were born five children, three sons and two daughters, John W. Smith, Ernest E. Smith, Alvin E. Smith and Mrs. Viola Nelson of Carnegie and Mrs. Mable Faultner of Depew, all of whom are living to mourn the loss of their father. He also leaves a wife, fifteen grandchildren, five sisters and two brothers who share the loss of their departed loved one. The sisters are Mrs. Rhoda Pember, Mrs. Lizzie Tarmon, Mrs. Rosa Mellies of Ness City, Kans., Mrs. Lura Zickefoose, Renfrow, Okla., Mrs. Lucy Othey, Nowata, Okla.; the brothers are James H. Smith of California and Rev. Friend A. Smith of Carnegie, Okla.

Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased in Carnegie, officiated by Mrs. Mannin, pastor of the Nazarene church of Spring Valley, after which a number of friends and relatives accompanied the remains to the Carnegie cemetery where interment was made.

Mr. Smith moved to Carnegie in August of 1926 from Ness City, Kan. He was known wherever he lived as an honest and upright man in his dealings with his fellowmen. He was was a good neighbor and a good citizen, a good companion and father.

In his last hours he was heard to pray very earnestly and then to sing the good old song, "Nearer My God to Thee," and died peacefully and without a struggle passed into the great beyond, there to wait the coming of those he has left behind.

We want to say to the loved ones, weep not as those who have no hope, but fix your heart and hopes upon God and look beyond this vale of tears and sorrows to that home where partings come no more.
