Virginia Gibson Dodd

dodd-v-g

July 29, 1924 ~ February 27, 2023

Virginia Gibson Dodd finished her earthly journey on February 27, 2023, at the age of 98. She was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on July 29, 1924, to Novy and Elizabeth Gibson. She graduated from Durant High School in 1942. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University where she received her Bachelor of Science in business administration. She attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she received her Master's in Education. In December 1946, she married William "Bill" Dodd after a four-year friendship. She taught in the Durant school system for 20+ years. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the PEO.

We honor our "Momo" and celebrate memories of a lifetime of adventure, happiness and blessings from the Lord. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother to all of us. She also had a lengthy career including being a cheerleader, secretary, nurse's aide, teacher, public relations administrator, event planner, home decorator, seamstress, gardener, gourmet cook, golfer, musician and most importantly a prayer warrior. So today we honor and thank her for many years of love and devotion to all of her family; as well as many in our community that have known her as coworker, teacher, friend and neighbor. She made a difference in so many people's lives, and gave that warm smile of sunshine to anyone she met.

She is survived by her sons Jeff, Bill, Jr. and his wife Amy, daughter Ginger Bedwell and husband Gary. Granddaughters Cece Pearson, Monique Gray and husband Wes, Carrie Bauck and husband Warren, Sarah Simmons and husband Jim and Kelsey Dodd. Grandsons Ryan Dodd and wife Kirbie, Philip Dodd and wife Savannah, Nathaniel Dodd and wife Carley and Caleb Bedwell and 24 great grandchildren. Virginia also had nieces DeeDee Dodd, Susan Naegle and Nancy Naegle and nephew Doug Dodd. She was preceded in death by her parents Novy and Elizabeth Gibson, husband William Dodd, sisters Doris Naegle and Mary Lynn Stewart and niece Betsy Stewart.

The family suggests donations be made to Goodland Presbyterian Home, in Hugo OK, 1216 N 4200 Rd Hugo, OK, 74743-8510.

Family hour will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 7 -8 pm, at Homes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, OK. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 2:00 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church, with interment following at Highland Cemetery in Durant, OK.
