Sue was born on October 28, 1931, southeast of Greenfield, OK to Ledrue and Virgie Cheek Chapman and passed away January 17, 2022, at her daughter and son-in-law’s, Deborah and Johnny Jirik, country home in Cashion, OK, having reached the age of 90 years.
Sue was born and raised on the family farm. She attended Greenfield Public School, graduating valedictorian, May 21, 1949. Sue married Ben Grishow September 16, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She and Ben lived on a farm 3 miles north of the Chapman farm. Their only child, a daughter, was born April 27, 1952. In 1969, Sue and Ben bought a farm located a half mile from where they were living. After Ben passed, Sue remained alone on the farm for nearly 6 years.
She helped with the field work, chopped and picked cotton, hauled wheat, milked cows, bucket fed calves, fed the pigs, and whatever else Ben needed help with. She also had a garden and canned what was grow there. She cooked 3 delicious meals every day, as she was an excellent cook and baker. She helped with Deborah’s school parties and went on many school field trips, which she truly enjoyed. Later in life, she went to work outside of the home. She was a secretary for the Watonga Chamber of Commerce and bookkeeper/secretary/HR of the Watonga Nursing Home. During all of this, Sue and Ben raise thoroughbred racehorses.
Sue was always a very hard worker. Very independent, strong-willed and did everything very fast. Sue loved to visit and be busy. She was an excellent seamstress; she crochet and cross-stitched many items. She passed those talents, and her passion for cooking and baking, on to Deborah and some of her grand and greatgrandchildren. Sue enjoyed many activities throughout her life, which included roller skating, playing cards, board games, dominoes, bowling, and traveling the United States with her friends and family.
Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her grand and greatgrandchildren. She tried to attend all their programs and activities.
She taught her family by example. A woman of many talents, and a life full of love and appreciation.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Deborah Sue Jirik and husband, Johnny of Cashion; granddaughters, Shannon Cooksey and husband, Kenny of Edmond, April Smith and husband Mark of Marshall, step-granddaughter, Jennifer Bass and husband Jacob of Oklahoma City, and step-grandson Justin Jirik of Wichita, KS. Nine great-grandchildren, Madison Holcomb and husband Daniel of Tulsa, Ethan Cooksey and Destanee of Oklahoma City, Brooklyn Whitechurch and husband Zayne of Moore, Mitchell Suttle and Abigail Suttle of Edmond, Taylor Gracy-Dawn Smith of Marshall, Wyatt, Maggie, and Nolan Bass of Oklahoma City. Niece, Mary Lou Scheihing and husband Kenny of Greenfield. Great and great great nieces and nephews, as well as many well-loved friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben, her husband of 67 years, older brother, Lee Chapman and wife Patty, and a nephew Carl Lee Chapman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Watonga First United Methodist Church, the Greenfield Baptist Church P.O. BOX 130, Greenfield, OK, 73043; the Greenfield Fire Department, P.O. BOX 6, Greenfield, OK, 73043.

In respect of Sue’s wishes, there will be a brief graveside service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery (80510 N. 2590 RD Watonga, OK, 73772) on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.
