Memorial services for Joe Nelson, 69, of Geary, OK will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Canton Christian Church with Pastor Justin Brodie officiating. Joe was born August 17, 1945 at Deming, NM to Joseph and Mary (Holmes) Nelson. He departed this life on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Okeene, OK.

Joe attended school in Thomas and graduated from Oakwood High School. He worked in the oilfield most of his life, and also broke horses, worked on ranches and cut hedge posts. Joe loved hunting and fishing. If it walked or swam, he hunted it or caught it. He always hunted ringtails with his dad Bill. He enjoyed annual hunting and fishing trips with his family, playing music, and playing golf and pulling ponies.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Carol (Hagar) Nelson; Survivors include his children, Cindy Herbst and fiance Anthony Schaffler of Geary, OK, James Nelson and wife Tracey of Geary, OK and Jodi Nelson Vowell and husband Chris of Canton, OK; grandchildren Courtney Dawson and fiance Preston Session of Longdale, OK, Stephanie Dawson and fiance David Wilder of Fairview, OK, Justin Nelson and fiance Stephanie Payden of Geary, OK, Logan Vowell, Lance Vowell and Lea Vowell all of Canton, OK, Jace Nelson of Geary, OK; great-grandchildren Brooklynn Wilder, Emily Wilder, Lucas Sessions, Zaiden Sessions, Brylee Wilder, Peyton Sessions and Ella Wilder; brother William Moore and wife Cindy of Fay, OK; three sisters, Carolyn Madden and husband Larry of Thomas, OK, Marilyn Moore and Mary “Tootie” Moore both of Thomas, OK; many nieces and nephews and extended family; Condolences may be made online at www.haiglerpierce.com.
