A memorial service for LaVerne Irene Autry, 94, of rural Canton, OK will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. LaVerne Irene Autry was born on September 8, 1917 in the country near Retrop, Oklahoma to William Jasper and Beatrice (Ford) Felkner. She departed this life on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Fairview, Oklahoma. LaVerne married Weldon Marce on August 22, 1935. They lived in Oakwood, OK, and spent several years in Crede, CO where her husband worked in the mines and was a ranch hand. They bought a farm west of Canton in 1944. LaVerne lived there until moving to a nursing home in spring of 2011. She loved the farm life, especially raising baby calves and chickens. She loved animals and nature. She liked to raise a garden and sew. She was a religious person all her life. She was a kind and tender-hearted person. She was an excellent mother that enjoyed her children and always had time for them. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Weldon Marce; step-father Archie Murdy, Sr.; one sister, Iris Forbes; one brother, Ira Felkner; two step-brothers, Archie Murdy, Jr. and Andy Murdy; two son-in-laws, George S. Scott and Charles Scannell; Survivors include four daughters, Adrie Irene Colvard and husband Louis of Canton, OK, Welda Gean Scott of Bartlesville, OK, Linda Kay Combs and husband Don of Anamosa, IA and Paula (Scannell) Watkins and husband Tom of Ringwood, OK; half-sister Charlene Fleig of Enid, OK; grandchildren David and Vickie Colvard, Tim and Pam Colvard, Douglas Colvard, Shawn and Christie Colvard, Sharon and Randy Ray, Karen and Geordie Bell, Cyd Scott, George and Melissa Scott, Autumn and Todd Wood, Brandon and Lois Combs and Derrick and Elisa Combs; numerous great-granchildren and great-great-grandchildren; Condolences may be made online at Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home.
