Betty Lou Darlene Kahn Pester

Funeral services for Betty Lou Darlene Pester will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 at the Longdale School Gym with Pastor Ray Schoonmaker and Pastor Charlie Broam officiating. Interment will follow in Longdale Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

Betty was born March 8, 1929 to George and Mayme (Nightengale) Kahn near Fairview Oklahoma. She departed this life at her home in Longdale on May 17, 2014 at the age of 85. She attended grade school at the Bungalow school east of Fairview, graduating from the 8th grade. During the hard times of the depression, her family could not afford to send her to high school. Instead, she helped work the family farm, driving tractor and whatever else was required of her. She met and married Walter Alvin ?Pete? Pester February 28, 1947 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. They made their home in Longdale. To this union were born three children, one son, Gene Allen Pester and wife Gail of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Donna Lou Wright and Debra Darlene Bills both of El Reno, Oklahoma. She was blessed with one granddaughter, Jaime Wright and husband Eddie of Bethany, one step-granddaughter Danielle Rickey and husband Mark of Moore, Oklahoma and one step-grandson, Tanner Bills of Pacatollo, Idaho, and two great-grandsons, Zackary and Seth Wright and two step-grandsons Brett Armstrong Jr. and Brandon Rickey.

Early on, Betty was very active in her community. She was the Longdale postal clerk for 27 ½ years. She worked for the city of Longdale as the treasure, as the clerk and also served on the council for 30 years. She took pride in the fact that the county auditor always praised her precise and neat bookwork. She would often say ?pretty good for someone with just an 8th grade education?. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and also president of the Longdale Parent/Teacher Club. She was the charter president of the Longdale Lioness Club, which was responsible for starting the 4th of July parade.

She was an active member of the Longdale Community Church and the Longdale School Gym Association. At the time of her death she was the longest continuing residing person in the town of Longdale. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, one brother, one son-in-law and one step grandson.

Survivors include two brothers, Jay Dee Kahn, and wife Karyl of Surprise, Arizona; Cecil Dean Kahn and wife Eileen of Fairview Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and enjoyed visiting with. Betty loved music, song and dancing. She loved the mountains of Colorado, camping and fishing, and the numerous trips taken with her family. Betty was fiesty and independent to the end. Her home was always open to the kids' friends. She doted on her children and grandchildren. She loved to laughing and joking and being teased. She loved to visit with people and enjoyed their company. Mom is now doing the jitterbug into heaven. Betty enjoyed history and has several scrapbooks full of historical articles pertaining to Longdale, Blaine County, Major County and surrounding areas. She also enjoyed sharing her love of family through the many photo albums she put together and maintained over the years.
