Edith McConnell
(May 9, 1926 - April 21, 2016)

After 89 years of a life well lived Edith Corrine McConnell went home to be with her Heavenly Father on April 21, 2016. Edith was born in a two story white house one mile west of Cedar Springs Nazarene Church on May 9, 1926 to Edgar John Pharis and Ethel Verona (Page) Pharis.

Edith grew up in the Longdale area and attended a one room country school house. She later attended Longdale School and graduated in 1945. On July 24, 1945 Edith married Alman Sidney McConnell. They made their home for 52 years on the McConnell family homestead where they operated a dairy farm and raised beef cows along with other various livestock. During that time Edith also drove a school bus for Canton Public Schools for 19 years. After Alman passed, Edith remained independent on the family farm for 19 more years. Edith continued to run cattle with her daughter and loved going to the pasture to check on her cows. Edith took pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She attended as many of their activities as she could. She looked forward to Friday night High School football. If she couldn’t attend she would listen to the game on the radio and then she would call with a report on how many times she heard her great grandsons’ names. Edith loved gardening, baking and sewing. Edith was known for her homemade chicken and noodles, pies, and jellies. She loved quilting and went every Tuesday to the Longdale School to quilt with friends. Edith was a founding member of the Longdale Gym Association. She was very active in many of the events that were held at the gym. She spent countless hours helping with the annual 4th of July celebration and numerous chicken noodle dinners. Edith attended the Midway Assembly of God Church and later in life the Longdale Baptist Church.

Edith is survived by two sons, Lonnie McConnell and wife Lynn of Mooreland, OK and Larry Don McConnell who now resides on the family homestead; one daughter, Glenda Hill and husband Bill of Longdale, OK; beloved family members Marsha McConnell and Bonnie McConnell; one sister, Joyce Couch and husband Gene of Haysville, KS; one step-brother, Wesley Pharis and wife Norma of Blackfoot, ID; one brother-in-law, Vance Dow of Norman, OK; one aunt, Eldora Boucher of Edmond, OK; four grandchildren, Eric McConnell and wife Lisa of Kingfisher, OK, Kari Ann Hart of Canyon, TX, Dean Hill and wife Cindy of Longdale, OK and Mandy Hutchison and husband Newley of Canton, OK; two step grandchildren Heather and Jay; ten great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, and one brother. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Longdale Gym Association or Page Park LLC with Pierce Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds. Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great-Great Grandma, Aunt, Sister, niece, cousin and Friend, Edith blessed her family with a strong will, a hard work ethic, a love for life and a belief in God.
