Joe Ellsworth Gilchrist
(November 11, 1927 - January 1, 2008)

Joe Ellsworth Gilchrist was born in Oklahoma City, November 11, 1927, to Ellsworth L. and Clastine Gilchrist. He died New Year's Day, 2008 in Dallas, Texas, where he and his wife, Marcella had made their home for the past 50 years. Joe graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City. He served in the Merchant Marines for nine years, traveling to ports all over the world. He then joined the United States Army. After his release from the Army, he attended school at Oklahoma City University. It was in Oklahoma City where he met the love of his life, Marcella Kenison, and they married in 1953. After several years living in Oklahoma City, they moved to the Dallas area where he started his own heating and air conditioning business. One of Joe's hobbies was metal sculpturing, and he used his talent to create some very beautiful pieces. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. Joe is survived by his wife, Marcella, of the home. He is also survived by a loving extended family consisting of his sister-in-law, Lola Tippin of Bethany; a niece, Karen Nowlin of Longdale, Oklahoma; three nephews, Jon H. Tippin and wife Kathy of Ponca City, Dr. Mark T. Tippin and wife Robin of Edmond; Brian K. Tippin and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City; 2 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at Longdale Cemetery, Longdale, Oklahoma, at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 5th, 2008 under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home of Canton, Oklahoma.
