Ruth “Opal” (Bromlow) Denton
February 23, 1925 - July 16, 2017

Ruth “Opal” (Bromlow) Denton, of Longdale, passed from this life on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the age of 92 years, 4 months, and 23 days. Opal was born to Jim and Mittie Bromlow in Butler, OK on Monday, February 23, 1925. The family lived in Hammon, OK until Opal was 6, when they moved to the Cantonment community where Opal received her education at Canton schools. On June 11, 1943, Opal was united in marriage to Grant Denton in Fairview, OK, a union of 32 years until his passing in 1975. Later in life she married Delmer Cook in November of 1991, a union of 14 years until his passing. She worked as a cleaner for various businesses including Curtis and McCue’s Law office in Fairview, and as a cook for the Longdale School, but always considered herself a mother first. In the spare time she could find, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, and playing cards. She was also a member of the Lion’s Club and the Longdale Community Church.

In addition to her parents Jim and Mittie Bromlow, Opal was preceded in death by two husbands, Grant Denton and Delmer Cook; infant child Mary Jean Denton; brother, Joy Lee Bromlow; four sisters, Eva Bell, Josephine Ward, Florence Garman, and Lillie Edwards; granddaughter Renea Denton; and three great grandchildren Bryer Denton, Whitney Renea Denton, and Larry George Denton.

She is survived by her eight children, Larry Grant Denton and wife Pattie of Oakwood, Linda Blood and husband Glen of Canton, Dean Denton and wife Kathryn of Canton, Don Denton and wife Theresa of Oakwood, Robert Denton and wife Shirley of Canton, Carl Denton, Penny Robison and husband Butch of Weatherford, and Rick Denton and wife Kim of Fairview; five sisters Lucille Fields of Tenebonne, OR, Doris Patterson of Longdale, Dollie Blair of Burley, ID, Amy Conley of Henryetta, TX, and Iva Jim of Sligman, MO; 18 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on FRIDAY, JULY 21, 2017 at the Longdale Community Gym. Burial will follow at Longdale Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in Opal’s honor may be made to the Longdale Cemetery or American Heart Association.
