Deceased: Kenneth Eugene Steidley

The funeral for Kenneth Eugene Steidley, 87, of Seiling, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at Redinger Funeral Home Chapel, Seiling. The Rev. Dennis Adair will officiate. Burial will be in Homestead Cemetery .

He was born June 21, 1922, on the family farm near Claremore to Jesse Daniel and Nellie May Stout Steidley and died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Seiling Municipal Hospital.

He attended rural schools through the eighth grade and graduated from Claremore High School in 1941. He attended Oklahoma A&M until 1942, when he entered the Army. He worked in the subbasement of the Pentagon printing military orders, later training with an 8-inch howitzer unit at Camp Hood, Texas. He served on the Argentina troop ship overseas for 13 months. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.

He farmed and ranched until his farmland was taken for Oolagah Lake. In 1948, he was elected Rogers County treasurer, serving 10 years.

In 1963, he moved to Wichita, Kan. He married Mary Ann Spatz May 26, 1967, in Miami, Okla. They lived in Wichita, later moving to Lubbock, Texas, then to Oklahoma City, where he received his real estate license and his brokers license. In 1986, they moved to Seiling to manage the Crossroads Motel. He later worked in maintenance at Seiling schools, retiring in July 1992.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann, of Seiling; one stepdaughter, Sharon Paine of Mansfield, Texas; one stepson, Ron Spatz of Seiling; two sisters, Beucilla Wiggington of Anaheim, Calif., and Ruth McManaman of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Area Medical Foundation or Seiling American Legion.
