Canton – The funeral for Otha John Acre, 85, will be at 2 PM today at the United Methodist Church in Canton. The Reverends Chuck Gilbert and Matthew Beers will officiate. Burial will follow in the Eagle City Cemetery under direction of Haigler Funeral Home, Canton.

He was born December 8, 1910, in Dewey County to John T. and Ella Acre and died Monday, December 25, 1995, at the Okeene Hospital. He attended Canton schools, graduating in 1931.

He married Iona Edith Gard. They lived on a farm west of Canton. She died in 1951.

On April 11, 1966, he married Helouise Smith. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on Blaine County election board for more than 25 years.

Surviving are his wife, Helouise of the home; one daughter, Gari Sue Gross of Arlington, Texas; six step children, Genie Murray of Amarillo, Texas, George Smith of Canton, Jacque Ingram of Enid, Pete Smith of Ringwood, DeDe Bond of Oakwood and Becky Throgmorton of Panhandle, Texas; two grandchildren; 16 step – grandchildren; two great – grandchildren; and 17 step – great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church and/or the Canton Senior Citizens.
