Okemah (Gooden) Tharp

May 31, 1906 ~ December 1, 1995

Watonga – The funeral for Okemah Tharp, 89, will be Tuesday at 10 AM in the Church of the Nazarene, Watonga with the Rev. Larry Hall officiating. Burial will be in the East Mt. Pleasant Cemetery under direction of Wilkinson Mortuary.

She was born May 31, 1906, in Watonga to Alva and Murtle Gooden and died Friday, December 1, 1995.

Tharp was a life – long resident of Watonga, attending Oak Ridge schools and graduating from Watonga high school. She also attended business college in Enid.

She worked more than 40 years for Blaine Company Abstract and continued working for Roger Folsom doing abstract and title searches for oil leases.

Tharp married Oscar Anderson in October 1927, and he died in 1970. She married Harold Tharp in September 1976, and he died in 1989. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers, a niece and a nephew.

She is survived by three nephews and three nieces as well as three sisters – in – law and numerous other relatives.
