Graveside services for Cecil D. Gray, 96, of Canton, Oklahoma will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at Canton Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jeff Knighton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.

Cecil Dean Gray passed from this world on March 11, 2019 at the Fairview Fellowship Home, Fairview, Oklahoma. Cecil was born on April 30, 1922 to Queen Nancy Elvira (White) & Lawrence Macgregor Gray in Jethro, Arkansas.

At a young age Cecil, along with his parents & two younger brothers moved to Oklahoma, where a third brother was born. Cecil graduated from Canton High School. He served his country in WWII, traveling to places such as Germany, Austria, & France. Cecil married his sweetheart, Peggy Grothe on her birthday, August 23, 1946. They had 4 children and were married 47 years until Peggy's death in 1994. Cecil served as the Postmaster in Canton for nearly 3 decades, retiring in 1977. His life was full, enjoying many animals, fishing, bowling & playing pool. Cecil was always "DADDY" to his kids & "PAPAW" to his 15 grandkids, 28 great-grandkids and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Our "DADDY" our "PAPAW" loved his family dearly. He was truly a rock, a joy and inspiration to us all with his witty humor, his kindness and his enormous generosity. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers & his wife Peggy. He is survived by his four children: Jackie ,Terry, Gary and John, a score of grandchildren and his dog/faithful companion "Buddy". Memorial donations may be made to the A.S.P.C.A. or any veterans organization through the funeral home at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
