Claude Raymond Yell, 89, of Grimes was born March 21, 1897 in Mineral Wells, Texas to John R. and Eva Christion Yell and passed from this life Saturday, December 6, 1986 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital of Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

Mr. Yell worked in the coal mines from 12-19 years of age then moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1900. In 1901 he moved to Lyra, Texas living there until 1926 when he moved to Borger, Texas. On September 5, 1964 he was married to Edith Sanve Cox in Grimes, Oklahoma, from that time they made their home in Grimes. Mr. Yell was a retired oil filed employee, a member of the First Christian Church of Elk City and a member of the Masonic Lodge #1242 of Borger, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Edith of the home, 1 daughter, Ann Lee Cox of Midwest City, Oklahoma, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Leone Cator of Amarillo, Texas, and 1 brother, J .R. Yell of Dumas, Texas.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, morning, December 9, 1986 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre with John Bloss officiating.

Interment followed in the Wayland Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers were; George Bryan, Jack Brown, Benji Olson, Bill Olson, Jack Thompson and Earl Tucker. Honorary pallbearers were: S.C. Spitzer, Babe Frankford, Ralph Hanawalt, Larry Ballou, Cleto Franklin, Sam Burkhalter and Earl Jones.

Edith C. Yell was born March 15, 1903 in Chicago, IL, the oldest daughter of Elizabeth and Carl K. Sanve and passed away May 22, 1995 in the Great Plains Regional Medical Center of Elk City at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 7 days. Edith lived her entire life in the Grimes community where she was the Postmistress and rural mail carrier until her retirement in 1970. Edith married C.R. Yell on September 5, 1964 in Elk City.

She was a member of Elk City First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 son, Thomas Carl Cox, 1 daughter, Anna Lee Cox, 1 grandson, Mike Cox, 1 sister, and 3 brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Blanch Walker of Duncan, OK, 1 brother, Edwin Sanve of Elk City, OK, 4 grandchildren all of Seattle WA, several nieces/nephews and a host of relatives and friends.  In January 1937 was living in the Grimes community, Oklahoma.
