Dunning Info

Posted by:
Tammy J. Haynes

Here is some additional information for David (Dave) Dunning, located in Plot: row 2 (according to Find A Grave #16750960). David Dunning is my 3rd Great Grandfather. He was born in Ireland in 1818, his father was Alexander Dunning (1794-1878). His mother, also born in Ireland, was Margaret (Smith) Dunning (1794-1862).

David Dunning married Beulah Cooper January 5, 1841 in Lorain County, Ohio, USA.

His wife, Beulah (Cooper) Dunning was born in 1818 in New York, USA.  Her father was Isaac Bob Cooper (1784-1865) and her mother was Elisabeth Slyter (1784-1850). She is located in Plot: row 2.  I am unsure of her date of death, last known Census showed her living in Red Vermillion, Nemaha County, KS in 1870 taken August 10th.

Additionally, Arville Woodman is buried in Mayfield Cemetery.  Arville was born Dec 5 1854 in Sturgis, St. Joseph County, Michigan, USA. As near as I can tell her date of death was March 15, 1929 in Garden City, Finney County, KS, USA.  Her father was George Washington Cooper, Sr. (1827-1855, killed in a boiler explosion along with 2 brothers and a nephew in Brimfield, Noble County, Indiana, USA). Her mother was Elizabeth (Slyter) Cooper (1826-1856) (not to be confused with Elisabeth previously mentioned), her mother died in January 1856 in childbirth. Arville had 7 brothers and sisters who were sent to live with other relatives after the loss of so many family members. The three Cooper brothers married three Slyter sisters.

Arville married Daniel Albertus Woodman (1841-1913) around 1887 in Haskell County, KS.

I am sure this is more information than you wanted, but I though the history would prove that I am indeed related to Dave and Beulah Dunning.

I have been unsuccessful in locating an obituary or funeral notice for either of my great-grandparents. My husband and I live in Wichita, KS and would someday like to make the trip to western Oklahoma to take pictures of their gravestones.  His grandfather is also buried in western Oklahoma. My husband and I are avid ancestry seekers.

Sincerely

Tammy J. Haynes

Thanks to some old Historical Kansas Newspapers, we were able to determine that David died 5 November 1887 in either Neuchatel Township, or Centralia, Nemaha County, Kansas. I have included a copy of the obituary for documentation.
