Fred Burden

Fred Burden was born April 14, 1925 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Frances and Jim Burden. He passed away December 25, 2013 at Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 11 days. Fred was the 8th of 8 children and spent his school years at New Liberty.

After his father had a heart attack, he went to work on the family farm and caring for the land. After a few business ventures, Fred returned to farming and ranching, but his true passion was horses and training them. Fred was married to Ruby June (Taylor) Burden at Shamrock, Texas, on May 7, 1947 and to this union 2 children were born: Michel Kent and Kathryn. They moved to Mangum and owned a bakery and eventually moved back to Sayre where they made their home. Fred had 3 main loves in life: his wife, Ruby June; his family and his farms West of Sayre. He was dedicated to all three and made sure all were well taken care of.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Lori Kaye Burden; 3 brothers, Johnny, Jewel and Hack Burden; 3 sisters, Claudie Blackburn, Anna Belle Kirtley and Elizabeth Hall.

He is survived by his son, Mike Burden and wife, Connie, Clinton, OK; daughter, Katy White and husband, Jim, Bentonville, AR; 4 grandchildren, Joey White and wife, Cheryl, Rogers, AR, Tammy Needham and husband, Mike, Bentonville, AR, Linda Wilhelm and husband, Jerry, Clinton, OK and Julie Menge and husband, Ray, Clinton, OK; 9 great grandchildren, Seth White, Luke White, Cale White, Sage White, Jebb White, Jake Needham, Jaima Needham, Mycah Wilhelm and Tate Wilhelm; 1 great great granddaughter, Abby Needham; 1 sister, Opal Franks, Austin, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 10:00 am at Rose Chapel officiated by Doyle Kenny. Burial will be at Lone Oak Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
