Willie E. Huff McConkey

Willie E. Huff McConkey was born April 26, 1905 in Big Springs, Texas to Hattie and Franklin L. Huff and died Thursday in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 91.

Willie moved with her parents to Altus where she graduated from high school in 1927. She received her teachers certificate from Southwestern State College.

She married Joseph Leonard McConkey on April 26, 1929 and they moved to Arnett. They later moved to Meridian where she taught school at Meridian, New Liberty Center, New Liberty, Bulo, Buffalo, Shattuck and Texola.

She moved to Sayre in 1963 before later moving to Shattuck and then to Elk City in 1969 to make her home.

Willie was a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge and was a member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.

She was a member of the Elk City First Christian Church and taught a Sunday School class most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters; one son; and three brothers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Elk City First Christian Church officiated by Alan Abraham, with Gene Huff giving the eulogy. Interment will be in the Grandview Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.

Survivors include one daughgter, Pat Fihaley of Elk City; one brother, Jewett E. Huff of Amarillo, Texas; two grandchildren, Terry Fihaley of Dallas, Texas; Patrick Fihaley of Stoors, Connecticut; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
