Audrey Vestal (Thompson) Williams

Audrey Vestal Williams, affectionately known as "Grandma Country" was born June 2, 1914 in Odell, Texas to Dirthie Indiana (Siniard) and Iver Baines Thompson. She passed away August 15, 2018 at her home south of Canute, Oklahoma at the age of 104 years, 2 months and 13 days.
 

Audrey grew up in Odell, Texas until moving with her family south of Canute in 1926 where she graduated from Canute High School in 1933. At a young age her faith in the Lord was demonstrated by making her confession of faith in 1931 at Hebron Methodist Church where she placed her membership and was baptized in Smalts pond with a group of fifteen more women in white dresses. Audrey met and was married to R.L. "Shorty" Williams at Wheeler, Texas on April 19, 1947. They moved to Waco, Texas for 2 months before buying a farm and returning to the Canute area to farm and raise their family. After Shorty's death in February of 1966, Audrey continued to dedicate her life to farming and providing for her children. Her primary hobby was reading her Bible from cover to cover year after year and also cherished her work in the church, her church family and spending time with her family and friends.
 

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 daughter, Linda Williams, 1 daughter-in-law, Phyllis Williams, 1 grandson, Curt Williams, 1 brother, Sydney Thompson and 1 sister, Opal Mae Jackson.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Leon Williams and wife, Luada, Dill City, OK, Clyde Williams, Burns Flat, OK and Tommy Williams and wife, Kema, Dill City, OK; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Alisha, Erick, Cole and Kevin Williams, Daniel Ricketts and Tamara Jackson; 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; 1 nephew, Marvin Elliott and a host of other relatives and friends.
 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and in the memo put Western Technology Center (PWillys). Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 1469, Burns Flat, OK 73624 C/O Cheri Lou Gastineau.
