Flora Jane Unruh was born August 22, 1934 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Mavis Pauline
and William Walter "Bill" Libby. She passed away April 4, 2017 at Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 12 days.
Jane grew up northwest of Elk City, Oklahoma. She attended Herring Grade school,
Carpenter Schools and later graduated salutatorian at Hammon High School in
1952. After graduation she furthered her education at Southwestern Oklahoma
State University where she received her bachelors degree in Elementary Education
and also in business. While teaching elementary school in Manter, Kansas she met
and married Rodney Kline Unruh in Elk City, Oklahoma on May 25, 1957. After
their marriage they remained in Manter, Kansas where she continued teaching
elementary school. They moved to Minneola where she began working at the
Minneola Record newspaper and was the editor for 23 years. She also worked as a
med nurse where she distributed medications at the nursing home in Minneola,
Kansas. Jane was involved in many community activities and was a lifelong member
of the Church of Christ where she faithfully taught Sunday school for over 40
years. Jane fully retired in 2001 and enjoyed traveling and following their
grandchildren in their sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 nephew, Randy Logan.
She is survived by her husband, Kline, of the home; 3 children, Marjorie
Anderson and husband, Richard, Clinton, OK, Sheryl Hesser and husband, Randy,
Carbondale, KS and Rodney Unruh and wife, Lora, Elk City, OK; 7 grandchildren,
William Walter Chase Velharticky, Heather Mack, Cassandra Stutzman, Kyle
Augustine, Chelsea Romaldini, Dakota Unruh and Libby Unruh; 4 great
grandchildren, Alexzander, Reilly, Addyson and Mckynzie; 1 sister, Valeria Jay
and husband, Bill; 1 sister-in-law, Darlene Unruh and a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Randy
Logan Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Whinery-Savage Funeral Service, 403 West
Country Club, Elk City, OK 73644 or Second and Adams Church of Christ Youth
Church Camp Fund, P.O. Box 1609 Elk City, OK 73648.
