Charles J "Chuck" Meadows

Charles Meadows was born January 10, 1929 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Mamie Brock Meadows and Earl Meadows. He passed away March 4, 2001 in Oklahoma Veteran Center, Clinton, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years, one month and 24 days.

He attended schools in Eldorado and received his G.E.D. from Merritt High School. He also received two years of college education.

Mr. Meadows served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and later in Korea and Vietnam. He received many medals and awards, among them: the World War II Victory Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and many more. After nearly 25 years in the Air Force, Mr. Meadows retired as a Senior Master Sergeant and moved back to Elk City in January, 1971.

He married Betty Lou Hall March 19, 1972 in Elk City and she preceded him in death July 9, 2000.

Mr. Meadows was an Air Force Recruiter, Produce Manager at United Supermarket, and for seven years owned and operated the Gospel Gift Shop along with his wife.

He was a member of Gideons International, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was also a member of the Prairie View Baptist Church.

Preceding Mr. Meadows in death were his parents, Earl and Mamie Meadows; his wife, Betty; a brother, Joe Franklin Meadows; and stepson Ronnie Mott.

Survivors include his son, Jim Meadows, Atlanta, Georgia; and adopted daughter Betty Nell Odom, Ada, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter, Lowanna Redd, Elk City; three sisters, Edna Earle Brady, Foster, Oklahoma; Lola Mae Wisecarver and Shirley Alexander, both of Elk City; and a great granddaughter, Tessa Renea; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held Thursday March 8, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel, officiated by Kendall Hamilton, Pastor, Prairie View Baptist Church, and Sherry Rogers, Eulogy. Military honors were conducted by the 97th Air Mobility Wing, Blue Knights Honor Guard from Altust Air Force Base, Altus, Oklahoma.

Burial was held at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service.
