Melvin R. Mills was born January 9, 1926 in Erick, Oklahoma to Stella and W. S. "Stant" Mills. He passed away February 14, 2017 at Amarillo, Texas at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Melvin attended Erick High School and graduated in 1942. He later continued his education at the University of Oklahoma and also served his country during the Occupation of Japan with the US Army. Melvin was married to Ann Turner at Erick, Oklahoma on February 3, 1950 and they lived in Borger, Texas for a short time before moving to Panhandle, Texas. Melvin was employed at the Pantex Ordinance Plant until 1990 when he retired after 39 years of service. After his retirement, they returned to Erick to make their home and Melvin farmed and ranched for the next 27 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Erick and the Erick First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

He is survived by his 2 children, Janna Johnson and husband, Fred, Amarillo, Texas, and David Mills and wife, Gay, Amarillo, Texas; 2 grandchildren, Amy Slaton and husband, John, Amarillo, Texas, and Ashley McKinley and husband, Gavin, Alexandria, VA; 4 great grandchildren, Andrew and Allison Slaton, and Sydney Ann and Margaret, McKinley, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
