Donald R "Buck" Boyd

Donald R. "Buck" Boyd was born in Carnegie, OK on August 28,
1937 to Amos S. and Sarah Alice (Powers) Boyd. He passed away Saturday,
January 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 77 years, 4
months and 26 days.
Buck was the third of six children and at the young age of five the family
moved to Erick. He attended schools at Dabney and later Erick before Buck
ventured off to California for the first time when he was sixteen. He
returned to Oklahoma and found employment
working pipeline for Shamrock Construction. He was an all-around cowboy and
competed in calf roping, bull dogging, bronc riding and bull riding. He met
the love of his life Lavonne Childress while in California and on New Year’s
Eve 1958 he made her his wife. In August of 1959, they welcomed their only
son, Bucky Donald into the world. Buck and Lavonne lived in the Texola area
where Buck began his farming career in 1960. He farmed wheat, cotton, corn
and peanuts as well as having a cow/calf operation. In the early 1970's the
family moved to Erick to make their home. In the early eighties Buck and
Bucky Don built and raced stock cars and were very successful which is
evident with the trophies that still decorate the home. Buck also enjoyed
his trips to Colorado with close friends and told many stories of their
adventures while in the mountains. Buck never turned down a good fishing
trip or spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Bucky Don, parents, Amos and Sarah,
brothers, J.T, Phillip and George Boyd one sister, Sue Pair, brother-in-law,
Ed Pair and two sisters-in-laws, Carol Boyd and Jean Boyd.
Buck is survived by his wife, Lavonne of the home; grandsons, Jeremy
Simpson, Erick, OK, Johnny Boyd and wife, Chandra, Carter, OK and Shane Boyd
and wife, Rachel, Erick, OK; granddaughter Macy Boyd, Erick, OK; great
grandchildren, Dakayta Boyd, Rylee Boyd, Gavin Simpson and Jagger Boyd;
brother James Boyd, Carnegie, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
