(permission granted)

Sharon Day McCall Ivester. She was born October 13, 1937 in Oklahoma City and passed away on June 30, 2017 in Elk City, OK.

She was predeceased by her parents Joseph Shelby McCall and Mable Day McCall and her one sister Shirley Gray.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, John Edward Thomas Ivester, one daughter, Patricia Mann and husband Richard, one son, Thomas Ivester and wife DeAun and five grandchildren, Shelby and Ryan Mann and Joseph, Jackson, and Katherine Ivester, two nephews, Wolf Puckett and Shelby Puckett, as well as a host of close relatives and friends.

Sharon graduated from Northwest Classen High School in Oklahoma City and obtained a Bachelor degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Oklahoma. She later went on to earn a Master of Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

She met her husband “Ed” while teaching in Oklahoma City.  They lived in the same apartment complex and he couldn’t keep from running into her.  They married and moved to Sayre, OK were they remained for over 50 years.  Sharon was active and conscientious.  She worked as a grade school teacher, opened Apple Dumpling Pre-school, traveled a circuit providing speech pathology for area schools and finally ended her long teaching career at Sayre Schools.  Her husband Ed, family, church and teaching were her life.  She loved all four.  She spent countless days with family at OU football games, reunions and holidays.  She also loved to cook and entertain.  Sharon had a wonderful ability to plan, cook and serve a hot meal for 8-12 guests and make it look easy.  A loyal member of the Sayre United Methodist Church, she sat on nearly every board at one time or another and chaired many of them.  She started and ran “The Education and Employment Ministry” for the church for many years.  Sharon helped start Sayre’s Shortgrass Country Museum and served as its director for years after she retired from teaching.  She was a strong woman that let her actions speak for her.  Faced with cancer she simply moved forward.  She was not a complainer and when she beat it she just moved on.  She was an inspiration to her family and friends.  Sharon and Ed were a constant in Sayre as well as all things family.  Their life exemplified their faith in God and love for each other.  Although the last nine years were challenging she didn’t complain.  The ending that could have been was not to be.  Yet, difficult memories fade and the strong woman that was Sharon Ivester lives in our hearts.  ‘Till we meet again, God be with you!

Family requests memorial donations be made to the Shortgrass Country Museum P.O. Box 260 Sayre, Oklahoma 73662.
