Vivian (Smith) (Hargrave) Hanni
Apr 20, 1946 - Mar 25, 2014
Posted by Martha Reddout

Vivian was born in Little Cedar, a community outside Antlers, Oklahoma, in 1925 in the home of her parents, Henry and Irene (Dye) Smith. She graduated from Antlers High School in 1943.

On April 20, 1946, she married Charles E. Hargrave. She moved to Stillwater to go to Oklahoma State University with her husband. After graduation in 1949, they moved to Tuskahoma, Oklahoma where her husband taught agriculture until 1952.They moved to Howard, Kansas in 1953, where her husband, Charles, was employed by Howard Public Schools to teach high school agriculture and their daughter Lou Ann Hargrave was born. They returned in to Antlers in 1956, where her husband taught agriculture for most of his career, although his last position with Antlers Public School was assistant to the superintendent.
Vivian worked outside of her home most of her life. She worked as a clerk at the Pushmataha County Courthouse; a soda jerk at Stafford Drug Store; a substitute teacher and business manager for Antlers Public Schools; Society Editor for the Antlers American Newspaper; Editor of the Antlers American Newspaper; and administrative assistant for the Pushmataha County Department of Human Services. However, Vivian mostly identified herself as the FFA teacher’s wife, who assisted with the rearing of 64 FFA students a year.

May 18, 1989, after Charles’ death and her retirement she married farmer-rancher Ralph Hanni of Sayre Oklahoma, where she resided until his death in January 31, 2012. As much as she loved her life in Antlers, she embraced her family and friends of Sayre. After his death she moved to the Methodist Nursing Home in Enid, Oklahoma to be near her daughter.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Antlers, First Methodist Church of Antlers, and the Church of Christ of Sayre.

Her honors include but are not limited to Honorary 4-H Member; Honorary FFA Member; Antlers Chamber of Commerce member; Antlers Quarter Horse Association member; Antlers Alumni Association member; Antlers Council Woman; and Retired Teachers Association member and Officer.

Vivian was proceeded in death by her parents Henry and Irene Smith; brothers Neil Smith, Harold Smith, Bill Smith, Lyle Smith, and Richard Smith; sister Ivy Lou Smith; husband Charles E. Hargrave and Ralph Hanni. She is survived by her sister Wanda Knapp; daughter Dr. Lou Ann Hargrave and special niece Vivian Kay Hefly.
Vivian touched many family members, friends, and students’ lives with her love, which she demonstrated through service and support.
