Posted by Martha Reddout

J. H. "Levi" Garrett passed away April 29, 2014 at the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 96. He was born July 9, 1917 to Guy Leo and Grace Violet Garrett in Crowell, TX. He was raised with 2 brothers, Raymond and Aubrey and 1 sister, Ruth.

J. H. attended Vernon, TX public schools where he was an outstanding athlete in football, baseball and softball. He married Virginia Arlene De Sha on February 12, 1938 in Altus, OK. Three Daughters, Karen, Norma Sue and Carole Ann were born to this union. J. H. and Virginia moved to Sayre, OK in January 1947. It was there he begin his lifetime career in Sales and Management with Tom's Toasted Peanuts, Simons Trucking, Sayre Housing Authority, Post Exchange. After his retirement he worked as custodian and maintenance for First Baptist Church, Sayre and Sayre Junior College.
After the death of his first wife on October 28, 1982, four years later he was united in marriage to Juanita Robison in August 1986. She died in June of 2003. J. H. was a member of the Sayre First Baptist Church where he was the oldest living member. He was also a member of the Business Men's Sunday School Class.
J. H. enjoyed playing dominos with friends as a past time. His car was his pride and joy and he enjoyed driving - never to have had an accident. The one past time he enjoyed the most was drinking coffee with his buddies twice a day for the past two decades. His sons-in-law, Paul Conner and Billy Tipton were very special to him especially since he didn't have any sons - only 3 daughters. J. H. lived by himself in his own home until 5 months ago until declining health made it necessary for him to go to Hensley Nursing Home. Due to his excellent mind and memory he had a plan for everything and just completed the last thing on his list last Friday. Everything was finished now!

J. H. was preceded in death by his parents, 2 wives, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandson, Ryan Hobbick, 1 granddaughter, Lisa Drendel, 1 son-in-law, Billy Tipton and 1 grandson-in-law, Cary Hall.
