Florene Faye Barker

Florene Faye Lackey Barker was born June 9, 1917 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Frieda and Milton Kurtzey. She passed away January 22, 2014 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 96 years, 7 months and 13 days.

Florene grew up in the Sayre area where she graduated from Sayre High School. After graduation she furthered her education at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was married to Clarence Lackey on January 12, 1935. After their marriage, they moved to the Reydon community where she worked at Ms. Gilbert Variety Store, Otis Shelton Mercantile and also helped Clarence with the farming chores. During their marriage, Florene and Clarence suffered through the tragedy of the 1955 tornado that completely destroyed their house only to rebuild their lives on the family farm South of Reydon. In 1974, after their retirement, they moved to Sayre where they made their home. Clarence passed away in 1977. Florene married Arthur T. "Chick" Barker at Sayre, Oklahoma on March 3, 1985. Florene and Chick continued to make Sayre their home. Florene was a member of the Sayre United Methodist Church and also enjoyed playing the piano for services, bowling, traveling, fishing, reading and watching Atlanta Braves baseball games.   
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, 1 daughter, Clarice Ann Sain, 1 granddaughter and 2 sisters.
 
She is survived by her 2 step sons, Gerry Barker and wife, Carolyn, Sayre, OK and Arthur Gale Barker and wife, Zoe Ann, Durham, OK; 1 granddaughter, Vicky Sain, Mannford, OK; 6 great grandchildren, numerous step grand and great, grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Sayre United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Margo Vestal. Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
